Common Poorwill, a bird with Uncommon habit of hibernation

Image
Common Poorwill, ( Phalaenoptilus nuttallii ) -the only bird known to go into hibernation picture courtesy Google images Hibernation is a way animals conserve energy to survive adverse weather conditions or lack of food. Usually, birds don't hibernate! The common poorwill is the only bird known to go into hibernation, a state in which metabolism and body temperature are reduced for weeks or even months. For this Hopi Native Americans called the bird "the sleeping one".  While some hummingbirds experience daily, short-term torpor in order to conserve energy, the Common Poorwill is the only bird known to have long bouts of it. During the winter when its food becomes scarce instead of migrating to a warmer climate like most birds do, the Poor-wills will go into a state of inactivity so that it can survive several weeks or months without eating.  picture courtesy Google images Common Poorwills are native to Canada, United States and Mexico.

Bleeding trees

Bloodwood Trees There are actually trees that bleeds when cut down like humans. These trees may look like normal trees - but once cut, they "bleed”.                                                                                                Picture courtesy Google images The Desert bloodwood tree (Corymbia Opaca) the African wild teak tree (Pterocarpus Angolensis) and the Dragon blood tree, (Dracaena Cinnabari) each produce a dark red liquid that looks disturbingly like blood. While the other trees produce white and

Covid - 19 impact on Automotive Sector.

Covid - 19 Impact on Automotive Sector Uncertainty clouds are hovering over the automotive industry and therefore the coming months are expected to unleash a bunch of challenges to organisation connected to the automotive sector. According to industry experts, the future is filled with challenges amid a large tide of unprecedented waves hitting the automotive shores. The COVID-19 happening has exposed many challenges for the automotive sector. South Korea, Italy and Japan are the foremost affected among the main industrialised economies. Consequently, 80 % of automotive and connected companies report that Coronavirus can have an immediate impact on their 2020 revenues. 78 % of organisations do not have enough employees to run a full production and assembly line. Workforce capability and Sustainability of Organisation

Image
Workforce capability and Sustainability of Organisation   Presence of appropriate organisational resources are essential for the sustainability of an organisation. When organisations undertake new initiatives, they often require changes in processes, procedures, job roles, organisation structure, culture and uses of technology. However, it is actually the employees of the organisation who ultimately changes in how they do their job. If these employees are unsuccessful in their transition, or if they do not embrace and learn a new way of working, the new initiative will fail . If the employees adopt changes required by the initiative, it will deliver the expected results. So the intellectual capability of an organisation is very important for the functioning as well as the  success of any change initiatives.    Learning capability is an intangible resource that has a significant role in the enhancement of firm’s performance and competitive advantage in general and in the success of IT i

Improving the policy capability and performance in India

Image
Improving the policy capability and performance in India   Policy making and implementation and management should be integrated and aligned in order to carry out the strategic intent of the government.  In India we have top down policy making. In top down policy making, authorities must have clear objectives, clear communication between different layers of governments and strong knowledge base about the problem (Mulgan & Lee 2001). But practically this never happens. Policy makers are not aware of the real world and communication gap exist between policy makers and implementers. This gap results in an over enthusiasm about the capacity of the change to be infinite, which in reality will be finite along with underestimated risks.     My one suggestion for improving the policy capability and performance is to reduce the gap in communication between policy makers and implementers. Many policies and programs face practical difficulties while implementing which may not be expected by th

Public Participation Through Online Deliberations

Image
Public Participation Through Online Deliberations There is a trend all over the world for public participation in government decision making. Traditionally public participation has taken the form of consultation in which experts and policy makers identify issues and develop questions and members of public are invited to respond to these. New approaches to engage the public in the discussions are emerging. Deliberative events are events in which citizens define and shape the issues and listen to the arguments of others.  Picture Courtesy Google images Online deliberations enable a broader mix of people to participate, contribute and develop recommendations for future policies. Online deliberations can be small group online deliberations and online mass participation tools. Small group online deliberations provides a platform in which the members had the opportunity to express their viewpoint on the subject over a period. The topic selected provides a common starting point and help the p
